Where am I? (What indicates "You are here"?)
Priceline Where Am I Image Priceline:
  • Title on top of browser
  • Highlighted section on navigation bar (see image on the right)
  • Header on inside box (see image on the right)
  • Images on the right side of the page (planes, car rental names, cruise ships, etc)
Expedia:
  • Title on top of browser
  • Highlighted section on navigation bar
  • Header on inside box
  • The reason I do not like Expedia is because the images on the pages are confusing. When clicking on "flights" the image of a hotel displays in the middle. When clicking on "hotels"
  • Expedia Where Am I Imagea flyer for a summer vacation and a picture of the statue of liberty appears or an advertisement appears (see image on right). The pages are way too cluttered. Your eye is not immediately drawn to the small/narrow box on the left (which is the box the user is essentially looking for when they click on whatever title) but it is drawn to the unrelated picture in the middle of the page.

Where can I go? (How do you know?)
Priceline:

  • It is very simple to navigate this site because of the top bar. The titles give are clear and easy to understand.
  • In addition to the top bar, each sub page has another small box that helps with navigation. It breaks down the section further. So if you select "vacation packages" on the top navigation, the second navigation will list things like "US, Carribean, Mexico.. etc". Therefore, the user can see the path they are following and make sure that they are going in the right direction. Even after a search is made, Priceline still has the top navigation listed in the top and the related navigation in the window of search.
Expedia:
  • The top navigation also stays on every page.
  • The header on the search box within a page makes it clear where you are

Navigation Winner
These two sites are mostly the same for this category. Priceline pulls ahead though because of their super simple break down of the pages and 2nd navigation bar. Also, Priceline's page is easier for the eyes and less cluttered.

Priceline wins for easiest Navigation.
