About IEEE

IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the
single largest technical organisation in the world. Over 30% of the
technical literature in electrical engineering are published through
IEEE journals. Based in New Jersey, it has members all over the world
from student members to associate members, full members and fellows.

I joined IEEE as a student member in my junior year in 2003. The last
year and a half has enriched me with the resources that the membership
has unlocked to me along with the intangible feeling of belonging to
this worldwide community of innovators which helps keep me motivated.

In my senior year, i was elected to Chair the IEEE student branch at
NIT Calicut, and we conducted many programs ranging from expert
lectures to workshops and a seminar cum paper contest to wind up the
activities of the academic year. The latter was especially challenging
because all the work had to be handled by a handful of us as our
student branch strength was very low. But, thanks to Dr.K.P Mohandas,
our branch counsellor who was tireless with his efforts, Bikramaditya,
Arjun, Devaraj and a host of others including the participants from
NITC and outside, it turned out to be a memorable day. I especially
cherish the meeting with Dr.N.N. Panicker, a Civil engineer and PhD.
from UC Berkeley who is championing many a social cause today
including better energy utilisation, associated with TATSAT.
